Summary:
The Deputy Sheriff - Trainee position is a non-sworn, at-will position.
Applicants who take it upon themselves to register with an academy before being selected for sponsorship funds will be responsible for all costs associated with the academy.

Required to attend and successfully complete an applicable law enforcement training academy to gain POST approve peace office licensure Required to successfully complete all phases of the selection process Required to sign an employment contract, if hired Education/Experience Education/
Experience:
High School diploma required.
Additional Requirements Be a citizen of the United States Be at least 18 years of age Must possess a valid Missouri operator's license at time of appointment Must pass a background check - no felony convictions Applicants must meet minimum qualifications of the FBI and MSHP CJIS Security policies Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to meet qualifications to attend a POST certified law enforcement training academy Must be able to successfully complete the Peace Office Standard Training (POST) academy, and obtain a Class A or B Missouri Peace Officer License Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
Some work in an office setting with a controlled environment.
Exposure to extreme weather conditions and highly intense situations.
Extended sitting while conducting field operations.
Physical activity includes bending, walking, lifting, standing, running and stooping.
Exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, loud noise, fumes and sudden temperature change.
May have exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
Visual acuity and color perception a must.
Normal hearing ability essential.
Occasional intense physical contact while affecting arrests.
Occasional sprint in process of apprehending a suspect.
Physical strength to subdue combative individuals.
Must perform these functions in a range of conditions including residences, stairwell, traffic-ways and open areas over uneven surfaces.
Must refrain from using tobacco products while on duty.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
